Description

Roe deer are native to Britain, having been present since before the Mesolithic period (6000 to 10000 years b.c) Forest clearance and over-hunting led to roe deer becoming extinct in England by 1800 but remained in wooded patches in Scotland. Several reintroductions during Victorian times and their subsequent, natural spread aided by an increase in woodland and forest planting in the 20th century has meant that roe deer have become widespread and abundant today. This Buck seemed oblivious of our presence, and his mate you can see hidden in the long grass at the back had 2 kids. While we waited a long while for them to come out to complete the family group it was not to be. Thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make

Beautiful image, Danny, and a wonderful example of a breed brought back from near English extinction, an admirable success!

They seem to have a nice heavy pyramid shaped head and stout neck - well muscled. This is a really fabulous wild shot. The weariness in its eye is very telling.

Masterfully captured, this roe deer reminds me of the dozens of them I would see running away from me and my friends as we climbed from day to day,the various 'bens' (mountains)of the isle of Mull...! A superb job you've done here,Danny :-)
