Description

DaNang waterfront seen from onboard a LARC (Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo) travelling on the Han River. LARCs are about 10m long boat-shaped vehicles with 4 big wheels and a 300hp diesel engine. Both Navy and Army detachments operated these vehicles out of DaNang AB. They were used to go into the bay where cargo ships were anchored and each LARC was loaded with three crates, each crate containing six 500lb bombs. The LARCs then transported these crates to a variety of bomb dumps through the city. We went for rides with them on our free time. It was something different to do. The building on the right is a Catholic Church. This picture was taken in July 1967 as a slide, a print was made in 1969, and in 2004 I scanned the print.
