Longgggg-standing interest in photography, first class in high school in the 60's, but was too expensive a hobby until my first digital camera about two years ago. Now I'm more prolific. :-D I am BRAND NEW to computers, so any advice on image enhancements probably should wait until I learn how to click, double-click, and drag...
I enjoy taking landscape shots and shots with a historical context, especially around Kittitas County, Washington.
The portraits in my icon and homepage image were taken last winter by the woman who is known here at Renderosity as PumaWalkingSoftly (aka Windchime Photography), thanks Laura!

They look like peahens, but I'm no expert! Wonder where they came from?

Yep, those are guineas or guineafowl or peafowl... must have gotten loose from somewhere, didn't think they were apartment dwellers, :). I always disliked them as a kid for the awful racket they can make, but a friend collected their feathers to hand make fly hooks for fly fishing.

They do look a bit lost if I must say so. I agree, look like peahen to me too. But, I am no expert either. Nice find. Aloha

I looked around on line, and the most likely suspect seems to be a guinea hen. They're related to turkeys and pheasants. It's not a peahen - peahen's crests look much like their more-photographed mates, even though they don't have the fancy tailfeathers. The shape isn't quite right for turkeys. Search on line for "guinea hen" and see what images you find.

I go with Guinea Fowl you can check them out here http://www.guinea-fowl.co.uk/03%20-%20colours.htm Text from that web site; Guinea fowl come from Africa originally, but have been bred for food in many countries for hundreds of years, there are even drawings of them on the walls of the pyramids. There are different varieties caused by cross-breeding over the years, and In some countries Guinea Fowl are still seen in the wild, hunted in the same way as pheasant or partridge are in the UK . Hope thats enough help. Excellent capture of something you don't see every day out on the street. Bravo!!!!!
