Description

Here's a shot from the top of the bridge at Deception Pass. Look at the water, if it doesn't make you too queasy to look down! Do you see how turbulent the surface of the water is? All that movement is caused by the tidal currents that rush through the narrow pass. Boaters wait for slack tide to navigate the passage. (Slack tide is when the tide changes, and it isn't rushing in either direction - it's basically as still as it ever gets.) Boaters wait in nearby coves until it's safe to sail to the other side. The water gets running through there so fast that it creates whirlpools. This is not a good place for the novice boater!! Denise (MrsRatbag) and Marilyn (beachzz) and I had a great time here! Loads of photo ops. :)

I suspect there's not a lot of swimming here, either LOL! You did a great job of showing the turbulence and explaining the danger. But dangerous or not, it's a very pretty place. I love the color of the water, and of course our green hills.

I can see that the water moves hard and fast here by the steepness of the cut banks. Wonderful shot!

Wow, when did you get out on the bridge to take this shot??? Sneaky girl, you!! But, you're right, this would NOT be a great place to swim. You caught the swirling waters beautifully!!

This only scratches the surface I imagine Tara, the undertow beneath is the real killer, when you think the water is going in one direction and in truth it is going in two directions. It may look inviting, but I think I will give it a miss. Excellent pov, and capture. Bravo!!!!!

Great shot Tara....I know how dangerous water can be....My son-in-law father jumped into a canal to save two children from drowning and he saved them, but he got sucked under. Jamie(my son-in-law) was 4 yrs. old when he died.

Wonderful vista and pov, and what you have written about those currents reminds me of the same thing occuring at the entrance to the 'Golfe du Morbihan' in Brittany (France). A gorgeous capture you've taken here.
