Description
Bodie, Calif., was one of the worst of the worst gold rush towns back in the 1850s. It's said there was someone killed every day, and the deed quite often started in one of the town's 65+ taverns. Today it's the best preserved ghost town in the U.S., kept by California in a state of "arrested decay". The most telling quote about the town came from little girl, upon learning her family was moving there. She's supposed to have written in her diary: "Goodbye God, I'm going to Bodie." A lot of gold was mined there, and at one time the town had 10,000 residents and two morgues. Today, only about 5% of the buildings remain.

The recognize teh old girl as my first acquaintance with a real race car. A 1937 Chevy. This one still has it's fenders, hood and has no roll cage or nerf bars. Ghost-towning was a phrase for the ultimate in retro all the way to vanquished.
