some history
Roseberry Topping is a distinctive hill on the border between North Yorkshire and the borough of Redcar and Cleveland, England, of which it has long been a symbol. Its summit has a distinctive half-cone shape with a jagged cliff, which has led to many comparisons with the much higher Matterhorn in Switzerland.
At 1049 ft (320 m), Roseberry Topping was traditionally thought to be the highest hill on the North York Moors; however, the nearby Urra Moor is higher, at 1490 ft (454 m).

Roseberry Topping must be an expensive addition to ice cream locally! I love this pic, it's so English, beautifully green and slightly overcast, and it's a great composition.

Nice landscape shot Mick, using the stream and fence line to lead into the image. I can't tell you how many times I have seen Roseberry Topping, whilst on my way to the steel works at Skinningrove, but never new it's name until now. Mind you, I could tell you all the names of the villages in that area at one time, but I takes me all the time to remember my towns name now. Wonderful North Yorkshire Countryside, excellent work. Bravo!!!!!

Its a beautiful shot and scene Mick! I think changing the sky would have taken away from the distinct image of the mountain...love how the stream leads your eye to the mountain background and gee I think I would love to put my feet up next to that stream!!! :-)

What a lovely countryside! The hills in the background give the eye a good stopping point, and Roseberry Topping is fascinating. The sky looks just fine to me - that's what I see all the time! :)

I had no idea you had a city named Cleveland as well. I learn so much from these photos! The hill is so very distinctive against the sky and the long stretch of pasture is a great way for the eye to travel to get there. Say, so many shots of pasture from the UK shows sheep and that is very different for me. I come from cattle country mostly. In Texas, sheep owners are still looked down on even though the cattle wars are long over. Many Texans will not eat lamb or allow it in the house. Even here in Nothern California, it is mostly dairy cows and beef cattle that I see, and only a few sheep ranches in comparison. Am I right in assuming your more popular meat sold there is lamb? Here it is very expensive and even those who like it don't eat it often because of its price. Is it expensive there?
