Description


The Image depicts a U.S. Milstar II, Block 5 military satellite. This image, and other views of this model, appeared in various Gannett publications, such as Air Force Times, USAToday, along with Space News. The Earth image is courtesy of Image Science and Analysis Laboratory, NASA-Johnson Space Center. The starfield was rendered in Starry Night Pro and composited in Photoshop.

Trying to figure it all out one ends up in a series of boxes. The antennas paint a blurry picture without reflections. Is a satellite like a very old person with nearly crumbling bones, fragile, about to fall, or a nubile ballet dancer lifted on the hand of her male counterpart? These elements, indeed, show the image space well.
