Description
Seen here is an early morning capture of the facade of the Pantheon in Rome (taken within an hour after the "Sunrise on the Tiber" photo; click below to take a look).
The Pantheon ("Temple of all the gods") is a building that was originally built as a temple to all the gods of Ancient Rome, and rebuilt circa 125 AD during Hadrian's reign. It has the largest free-standing dome in the world. It is the best preserved of all Roman buildings, and perhaps the best preserved building of its age. It has been in continuous use throughout its history. The reason why it remains in such good shape is because it was converted to, and used as, a Christian church after Christianity became the official religion of Rome.
