Description


The bronze heavy 12 pounder gun that stands guard in front Old College Headquarters is of Dutch origin, and was brought here from Woolwich in early 1947. Also known as the Cornelis Gun, it was manufactured in 1734 by Adrianus Crans, Master Founder from 1730 - 1745 at 's-Gravenhagen (Den Haag), was one of seven brothers who were the leading artificers in the Netherlands. Their father, Jan Crans, was the founder of the 18th century Dutch Gunfounding dynasty. A very interesting capture David - I like that the crowd are in the background and not surrounding the cannon, which is often not the case when trying to take a shot. Full sized view is definitely best here mate!

The iron carriage, now, must be a reproduction. In the open, even Civil war pieces, have been reframed. So it is that Italy reasserts itself as Roman.
