Description
When it's cloudy on the North Shore of Oahu, these kinds of captures become possible short before sunset, but it's always a scramble since that moment when the colors are just right doesn't last long. The fact that South Sea sunsets can be pretty dramatic is something this photo portrays decently, but there is nothing like seeing it with the eye. So much gets lost in translation! For one thing, what's missing here is the entire panoramic view of the sky at that moment, and the reflections off the mountains behind the camera.
About the picture itself. It was taken after six days of uninterrupted torrential rain that hit the islands. For every day except the last I was there, it poured cats and dogs, which is extremely unusual for Hawaii. I was very unhappy about having to spend my vacation in the rain, but resigned myself to and eventually became philosophical about my predicament. Then, the evening on the day when the weather began to turn for the better, the clouds broke as seen in this photo. The next day--my final day on the island--I managed to get a few other decent shots, so the vacation wasn't a complete waste from the perspective of taking pictures!

tropial sunsets are short lived affairs, unlike the one hour dusk in North Scotland.You have done well. The only change I would have made is to have cloned out the wisp of white contrail type cloud at the top. It is slightly distracting when the bend of the palm frond is leading the eye towards the horizion.

astonishing sunset and capture.here sometimes the colors will last for 20 minutes then other times they come and go in a flash.I have went up to my roof many times thinking the clouds will change and nothing happens.just as sure I get on the computer and loose track of time, then they burst in colors
