Description

Sorry PJ no chickens in this lot, but I threw together(literally) this bunch of fowl creatures. Lol. Top left a Black Swan(Cygnus atrarus), found throughout Australia with the exception of Cape York Peninsula, it is the only entirely black coloured Swan in the World. Top middle, a European Spoonbill(Platalea leucorodia) habitat, Southern Spain and SE Europe. Top right, a scared female and an Emu(Dromaius novaehollandiae) habitat Northern mainland Australia, the second largest bird on the planet(only the African Ostrich is larger) The wings of the Emu are only about 10cm long(about 4 inches)and totally useless for flying. Second row left another shot of the Black Swan, this reminded me of a poster that Labour had when Tony Blair was running for office as the Prime Minister for England. He had the same red eyes. Roflmao. The next two are pics of another Swan, yes they are! The Coscoroba Swan(Coscoroba coscoroba) I think Roby might recognise this one as it comes from the waters of Southernmost South America. These actually stand in water whilst mating. Next row left, some sort of Goose, no details but yes the feet are black and the beak is a pale green. By law we have to post a duck of some sort although the mother was hiding her head, the four little ducklings were happy to have their picture taken. Lol. Nearly at the end now. Bottom left the baby bringer the European White Stork(Ciconia ciconia) Hibitat ranges from Northern Europe to South America, stands approx. 1m - 1.5m tall and the plumage is the same in both sexes. Bottom middle is just a cheeky little Parrot that liked to nibble on my lens cover, in this shot it's head was actually inside the flower sun shade and he was pecking at the lens. Hooray for the skylight filter(I had to clean it after) The second spoonbill is there by accident. All taken at the South Lakes Wildlife Park, last Saturday. The birds look wet, we were wetter. It's raining hard here at the moment so I hope the sun shines down on those that want it, and a cool breeze blows for those that don't. Thanks for stopping for a look and for any comments you care to make, I am down to 67 ebots at the moment and still playing catch up.

What a wonderful collage of feathered friends Jeff. This is really stunning work!!! I am just wondering if the folks in the top right hand image realises that the emu could badly hurt or even kill a human. Grrrrrrrrrr... Well done!!! :)

What a great collection of photos. I love the couple and emu. He doesn't seem to care about them as much as they do him lol. What a great place to hang out for a while.

Such an interesting set of pics, Jeff! What a pity it rained, but can't have it all I suppose. I'd love it to do that here, the weather has been sunny at times but the wind blows the sand horizontally on the beach, and my garden soils is bone dry 1" down. Spent 2 hours watering, something I very rarely do.

Great collage of pictures! I like that Coscoroba Swan, it's got beautiful eyes:-) The grey parrot at the bottom looks like an Africa Grey, we've got two of them, Polly and Cocky, they were Russell's parent's birds but they were getting very lonely alone at home all day so I said I would love to have them. They are gorgeous, such characters :-) Polly is about 35 years old and Cocky about 25:-)

A wonderful collage Jeff and very informative (and sometimes humorous!) narrative too. Looks like you got some great shots there and despite the typically bad British weather, you obviously had fun. Hugs xx
