Hi, I am Sig (junge1),
I was born in Dominikus- Krankenhaus in Berlin-Hermsdorf, Bezirk Reinickendorf in December 1939. Bezirk Reinickendorf was one of 20 Bezirke that made up Gross-Berlin before World War II and one of 12 Bezirke that made up former West-Berlin, the other 8 Bezirke were Russian occupied and became East-Berlin after the war. Moved from Berlin to Neurohlau (Nova Role) Sudetenland (now Czech Republic), in August 1943 (our entire block of apartment buildings was bombed out in November 1943) and returned back to Berlin in November 1945. Saw my dad the first time in my life in August/September 1946 after he returned from POW camp. Attended elementary school in Berlin-Waidmannslust, high school in Berlin-Hermsdorf, and trade school in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Was an apprentice for the trade of Klischeeaetzer (photo engraver) at Burrath & Schmidt on Friedrichstrasse between U-Bahnhof Kochstrasse (near to what later became Checkpoint Charlie) and Hallisches Tor.
While watching Allied planes supplying West-Berlin by air during the Berliner Luftbruecke in 1948-49 I developed my love for aircraft. I guess I could be considered a 'Berliner Grosschnauze", or at least I used to be.
'Wanderlust' led me to leave Berlin in summer 1960 to emigrate to Toronto, Canada and in February 1962 to move from Canada to New York City, NY, USA. In January 1963 I joined the United States Air Force, one step ahead of Uncle Sam drafting me. Became a United States citizen within 7 weeks after it became a security issue because of my military career. One day after I was sworn in as a citizen in Seattle, my entire unit left for Southeast Asia in June 1966. After nearly 5 years of active duty (extended 11 months to make it an 18 months overseas deployment) I got discharged and moved to New York City. In 1973 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona and two years later joined the Arizona Air National Guard.
Received my higher education at Arizona State University and the University of Georgia and worked for 22 years for the Arizona Department of Water Resources in various capacities. Upon military retirement in 1999 and State retirement in 2005 I looked at a number of things to keep me occupied. Traveling and joining 'renderosity' in September 2007 were a couple of them,
Sig..

What a great capture. Too bad about all these fires lately. Yes, bad air quality for sure. In Hawaii, we have the VOG. Which is volcanic haze. Not very good either. But, it has to be better than all the smoke from the fires. Wonderful shot. Aloha

Oh Sig wunderbach mein Freund! For me immediatly!

...ein großartiges Foto! Leider sind es keine Wolken sondern Rauchschwaden. Wie Du erwähnst, nicht gerade gut für die Umwelt!

I had a moment of blind panic until I located Gila Bend on map. I had it in my mind it was much closer to Casa Grande and Coolidge than it turned out to be. I love Casa Grande (and the gourd farm I do business with is also in that area) and I scattered my "other" dad's ashes on the site of an abandoned mine in Coolidge where his cousins live. I couldn't imagine what was there that was combustable but what the heck...still didn't want to lose ... ashes? Well that's absurd, now that I think if it...:-I I do love this shot. I have a few shots of flash floodstorms on the horizon headed at the speed of a freight train at us while camping in Aguila and its such a thrill to see that. the fact that the storms were sucked up into the sky before they hit us was even more thrilling! Wonderful shot of the wildfire

fantastic capture! Super work!

Fantastic capture! The colour in that plume is incredible! Listening to the news the last few nights around here and knowing that in Cali alone we have over 800 fires (most sparked by dry lightning) it's a frightening and sobering thought about just how powerful a force Mother Nature really is.

I made a comment on one of PJ's this morning about how much I was complaining with the relentless rain we had in the NorthWest of England yesterday and then I had heard of relentless heat and the fires. Its a great shot Sig very impressive!

That sure looks like Hell on earth to me Sig, a very dramatic capture, I feel for the people that live near to this, it must be very hard to breath. Us Brits are always going on about the weather, looking at things like this we should be thankful. It is not often that we get fires like this, it is bad sometimes when the peat catches fire, that can burn for months underground, but we never get them with such magnitude of this one. Excellent job of capturing this Sig Bravo!!!!!
bebert
superb shot !!!!

seems like every time I fly to Nevada Arizona has a forest fire somewhere that can be seen from the air.I can imagine the people close to the fire worrying about their homes
