Description

Seen in the distance is the Palazzo Vecchio (Italian for "Old Palace"), which is the town hall of Florence, Italy. This massive, Gothic, crenellated fortress-palace is among the most impressive townhalls of Tuscany. Overlooking the Piazza della Signoria with its copy of Michelangelo's David statue as well the gallery of statues in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi, it is one of the most significant public places in Italy. The shot shown here was taken during the ascent of nearby Giotti's Tower (i.e. the Campanile tower of Florence, which is located next to the Duomo of Florence).
