Description

This is a doodle that turned into something more permanent, following Odessey's request for an 'in orbit' picture of the Sword. As fellow artist Elcet has commented elsewhere, the design is indeed inspired by the Art Deco locomotives of the early twentieth century. Since it stands alone, I decided not to try and force a story around it, or contrive the picture in other ways. The runabout was modelled in Hexagon, and the final image was rendered in Vue 6 Pro Studio. Thanks for looking, comments appreciated! I love the model. The lines are flowing and clean. Also the indentations are also very slick. Now drag it into a texturing program and give some paint :)

Very nice. The ship has a great, almost organic look, and I have a thing for that kind of ships :) Great work.

Classy. Curious though, the bigger ships seem to have very few crew also. Could it be a matter of cargo/combat capacity? Errgggh! I soooo want to pick your brain!

  • To answer gchuck's question: The Lazloi design philosophy is focused on range and protection, which means that small ships like the Sword or Kleneptra's scout ship are quite cramped. In fact, Kleneptra's ship is so heavily armoured for its size, it only has a crew of two even though it is bigger.

And a very fine near-planet background, too, Mark. I'd like to see this with it entering the atmosphere with a sheet of flame surrounding it. How about it?

Ah what a tease! I saw the picture and thought the Lazloi were back in the story! Guess I'll have to wait for the next instalment. On the other hand the pic is so good it doesn't need a story!!
