Description

Mars injection of Hermes1! Mars Explorer Hermes1 prepares itself for injection into orbit around Mars. This image shows only the crews transit vehicle that takes the crew to Mars and then returns them back to earth after the mission. The Lander has been on station orbiting Mars for the last 3 months waiting for Hermes to arrive. I will show in the next few images the docking of the Lander in it aeroshell then the landing on Mars. The model was created in Bryce by me just using the Boolean object found in the program. All concepts and design are mine. Thanks again for taking the time to view and comment on my work. David

Excellent render and design. Very Discoveryesque, but with more practical open structures. The level of detail is really engaging.

I love your work. I don't know what you do for a day job. I hope it's working for NASA. And if it isn't, it should be. This is the stuff that fuels our dreams.

Fabulous modelling. The lighting angle is spot-on, giving both depth and enough clarity to appreciate the design. Like many of your designs, I can truly believe this is a contemporary vehicle on an actual mission - the design is realistic and not fanciful. Like the 'Discovery' in '2001', it seems to have the drive separated from the forward section due to hazardous emissions from the drive. The large yellow tubes may contain fuel (as they are close to the drive section) so I assume that the grey tanks towards the front contain liquid oxygen. I wonder whether they recycle their water on this craft? It is perhaps the greatest difficulty with travelling to Mars; how will they carry sufficient water to survive the seven month journey, not to mention the longer journey back? Again, I think the sense of scale is well realised by having the ship set a distance from the position of the viewer, offset by the huge globe of Mars. I also enjoyed that you featured both the Valles Marineris and Olympus Mons, two aspects of Mars' areography that i am sure many people would like to visit one day! I have given a score of 5.
