Description


A pair of Shell Ducks, these are large goose sized ducks showing a great sense of togetherness. Head and neck bottle green with red bill, chestnut breast band, pink legs and black and white wings Swims on water, dabbles or up-ends to feed. Eats crustaceans and molluscs; flight strong and powerful. Nest is a downed lined cup in burrow (disused rabbit burrow) or hollow tree 1 Brood May – June; 8-15 eggs which are cream. They are very clever in keeping well hidden during this time. Male to the left has red knob on bill; female to the right plain red.
