Description

....looks to be a delightful way to spend a summer afternoon, relaxing in the shade amongst the "daisies". Thank you for your comments on yesterday's image. I'm feeling a bit better today. For those of you who were asking in your comments, a chigger is not a mosquito or midge, or a flying insect at all. It is a mite. You can google 'harvest mite' or 'chigger' and click on the images tab to see the damage they do. They are so small, they cannot be seen by the naked eye, .4mm or 1/150th of an inch long. The saliva from their bites causes large red welts that don't begin to itch for four to eight hours. And the itch is maddening, intense, and relentless for the first two or three days. They go in all the most discreet places where your clothing is restrictive and tight, such as around your shoes, behind the knees, all around your underwear, in the crotch area, around your waistband, around the bra area, and under your armpits. Even got some on my neck under the camera strap. Did not have bug spray on that day, so it was bound to happen. And contrary to popular myth, painting them all with clear nail polish to 'suffocate' them does not work, as by that time, they are already gone. Thank God for "Chiggerex" ointment. :) Thanks for looking and thanks also for your kind comments and faves on my recent postings.

Marvelous focus and lighting effects brings this fantastic capture to full beauty, Maria! I didn't know you had cheetahs running loose in Texas. They reach remarkable bursts of speed when chasing down prey. As for chiggers, there was no such thing as insect spray or special ointments when I encountered them, especially around the ankles and waist, way back when.

I have had the pleasure of stroking one of these down in Oudtshoorn. Their fur is so amazing, soft like a cat in the black spots, and more rough like a dog elsewhere. Stunning capture, exposure and composition. Cheers, Clive

That would be a new fav! awesome light/shadow, as well as how the daisies and spots on the cheetah fit! The facial expression alone worth it's weight in gold. Brilliant capture!
