Description
Well whale season is just about to start here in Hervey Bay so I thought I'd start the season with a bang.
The whales are now well on the way north from Antactica for their tropical holiday for calving & people watching.
Many humpback whales arrive in Hervey Bay in late July where they remain till November when they begin their return to the southern ocean.

I was thinking yesterday how whaling was probably the only sea based venture that would appeal to a Communist. Factory ships. Japan and Hartford Connecticutt must have been hotbeds. So how does that explain Jack London and his Communism. What was there to be collectivised on a sailing barque? Hervey is another place? The revolution began on a Navy ship at Tallinn. But it never really took hold offshore.

Before they get to Hervey Bay, they come past here first, on the Tweed & Gold Coasts, and what a spectacular sight. We are very lucky to experience this breeding-migration every year, as well...coming and going. Let's hope the Japanese Government can see our point of view... sooner than later. Somehow this harpoon is really scary, but a reminder and a warning, to leave those whales alone !!! A very thought-provoking photo...well done, Ralph. BB
