on a local pond in my favorite park. the green stuff looks strong enough to walk on

I suppose the coating of duckweed helps prevent further evaporation. It has rained at last here in the South of England.

Duckweed / chickweed call it what you will, I had some got into my pond once. It multiplys like crazy until the whole pond is covered and is very difficult to get rid of, especially if you have fish. I used to net it out every day but the spores just kept coming back. I didn't get rid of it until I eventually drained the pond and fitted a new liner. My niece took some from her pond and put it into a very large pond on her mothers(my sister) farm. It decimated the pond life it took over to such an extent. Very nasty stuff really Richard, and as you say deceptive, it look like lush grass that you could walk on. I would hate to have this on a pond near where chidren play. Excellent capture none the less. Bravo!!!!!
