Description

Loch Garten will reamain unspoiled,it is at the heart of the Cairngorm national park and forms part of a bird reserve which was created to protect the nest site of the only Osprey known to be breeding in the uk. Since that time 40 years ago the Osprey has slowly expanded its range and indeed can be seen more widely. Yesterday one flew over my home in Grantown holding a fish in its talons.

This is beautiful. The lake and it's surroundings look untainted and unspoiled by humanity. The shot itself is very well compositioned: the trees are grouped and spaced as if according to rules of how stones should be placed in a zen garden. The effect of peering through them as they stand is very harmonious and pleasing to the eye. The way the eye is drawn into the depth of field (the receding hills and rising mountains is brilliant. There's more than just a bit of poetry here! This piece works on various levels of one's conscious and unconscious esthetic appreciation. A most excellent job ... and surely a favorite of mine!!
