Description

It's not fitting for any but the Empress herself to sit upon the throne, so the Vicereine has had the throne removed to storage, until an Empress sees fit to visit Cartimandua province (it hasn't happened yet). The Throne Room remains the nerve-centre of the Empire within Cartimandua, though, so the Vicereine conducts all business there and does so standing up. Alongside advanced technologies and ruthless military might, telepathy is the key to imperial power, since thought-based communications will always be faster than any that rely on "faster-than-light" legerdemain. The Vicereine receives and responds to a constant stream of telepathic communication from her subordinates, scattered across the vastness of her province. When she speaks, it is to bark an order to some hapless aide in her vicinity. Invariably, the future of the Empire is at stake and something needs to be done yesterday. Some of the aides have compiled an unofficial job description. "Knowledge of time-travel essential" tops the list. Most stuff here from DAZ. I should emphasize that coflek-gnorg's "Throne Room" does include a throne.
