Description

Did this as a modeling self-challenge, and a "styling lark". I wondered if I could model a late-30's style automobile; I've always liked their swoopy fenders. I looked at hundreds of photographs of cars from that era, then I just started modeling and this is what I came up with. Admittedly the wheels are probably a bit lame, and they are something I'm going to change. They are patterned after Cadillac "full moons" circa 1937-38. I was looking to make this a freebie, and the polys required for more elaborate wheels and tires would have pushed this past the bandwidth for most hosts. This is the first time I've done an HDRI render,and second time modeling a car, but I'm encouraged by the results. Box-modeled in Wings3D, rendered in Carrara5 using an HDRI by Dosch Design included on Carrara's content disk.

Avoiding a speciific brand and even a specific market while capturing the essence of desirability is like a model without makeup and hose. The natural look just starting to go off as the apron grilles begin to appear. One finds the lines in a waterfall and the bow wave of a great freighter.
