Description
I'd always seen the aerial picture of this crater found in so many astronomy books, but had never thought I might actually see the site with my own eyes.
A 150 ft meteorite hit this spot about 50,000 years ago causing an explosion equivalent to 20 million tons of TNT. It carved out this 4000 ft wide by 500 ft deep crater. They used to have walks to the bottom, but they were suspended because people were trashing the area.
EVERYBODY HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!!

Beautiful shot. It's a shame some uncaring people have to ruin it for the rest of us.

I have a picture in my gallery of the same thing.I did not have a wide angle at the time so I stitched together several shots by hand.when I was there it had snow on the walls and the walkways.I felt the same as you. I had drove by several times but never stopped.the last time I said it was a go and was amazed at the size and beauty outstanding capture.
