Description

This is the same Barn Owl I put in a gallery shot a while back. Then, unresponsive and with a broken wing set and bandaged, I was concerned if the owl would make it. Today, I was happily surprised when told, "Go in and see the barn owl. This one is flying well and will be relased soon." I asked if this was the same owl..yes. Perfect recovery. In the larger enclosure with some room for flying, the owl flew about. This is a totally beautiful bird with wonderful top coloration and the entire underside is white. I will post another shot of this owl in a few days showing the markings of the top view of feathers. Not to stress the bird or risk it breaking a feather, I soon left the enclosure. But first, when the owl landed above and there was this image staring me in the face...well, I had to show the white underside. When this owl flew from one end of the enclosure to the other, I saw mostly the underneath view and the soft whiteness of that is striking..and as expected, not a sound to the flight. To be such efficient nocturnal predators, I wonder at the white coloration. Yet, it works for the barn owl. Nikon DSLR, F/9, 1/125 sec, ISO 400, natural light.
