Description
These are the graves of civil war soldiers, they were decked out with flags for the 4th.
I hadn't realized that they were even there until I saw the flags from the road and went to explore with my camera, thinking I would get an interesting shot.
I walked away with much more than a good shot. It was a very moving experience to walk amongst them, reading the names and dates. Some didn't have the date they were born, just when they died. There were a few marked "Unknown Soldier".

Fantastic mood about the scene and the flags honoring the soldiers are speaking volumes for them, and us remaining here so many years later.

I can imagine this was quite a moving experience, to walk amongst the graves, reading the inscriptions, the flags fluttering in the breeze, would no doubt add to the feeling. These soldiers that died in a civil war twix North and South, decorated with the United States Flag and a Lone Star. It is quite moving just sitting here looking at the image so I can't imagine what it must have been like actually walking among them. When will the leaders of countries realise this is what war gets the most of, dead soldiers, when will we learn to live in peace? A superb and moving image, yet such a waste of life.

The flag holders are a giveaway. That's the shape I've seen in old cemetaries with G.A.R. on them. Always wondered, for a few years anyhow, what or who GAR was: Grand Army of the Republic. Good shot.
