I have never been close to cacti this large. Only the much smaller variety and then of course the wild prickly pear cacti that grow wild. A very cool capture! Lea

The Old Man or Grandfather cactus is an important part of the history and culture of the native people from this area. It was all-sustaining for thousands. I have spent much time wandering in the Arizona desert, sitting at the base of many Grandfathers, marveling at their ancient history. It takes them 20 years to put out their first arm on average and they grow about 1/2 - to 1 inch per year so you can imagine how very old one this size is. Exceptional capture.
