Description

Hello everyone, I saw this little guy at the zoo in Erfurt (East-Germany). In German those animals are called "Kap-Borstenhörnchen", I don't know the English name so I have chosen the latin name as title. You must really have a FULLSIZE-VIEW, please! Hope you like it! :) Have a nice day! The settings for those who are interested in: Nikon D300 + Sigma 100-300mm F4, 1/160s (on Manfrotto 680B), F/4.0, 300mm (@450mm), ISO-500, aperture priority, ... The English name is "Cape Ground Squirrel" (I have found out meanwhile)

...wunderschönes Foto von dem kleinen Nager! In "full-sized" sieht man erst, was der für "scharfe" Krallen hat!!!!

Because of the white around the eyes and the strip down the side, inspite of being in a setting that looks more desert than valley or hilly, I would guess this is a chipmunk. There are many kinds including one found in the desert. I can rule out the roundtailed variety and the yellow pine variety but I can't really be sure of the type chipmunk you have here. They are adorable and your capture does bring that out.
