Description
These friendly insects sometimes get pulverized if someone suffers from pain in the ears or if someone (you? smile me) can not hear clearly what they say anymore. They belive, that such a magic pulver will bring instant releave. There is also a rumor, that these nice insects crawl into an ear during that time a given person sleeps and bites him/herself into the flesh of the inner ear-tunnel.
The one you can see above is a typical normal size earworm (Ohr-Wurm, as we call them in Switzerland), but there are also some giant earworms among the ca. 1800 known species. A giant-earworm is about up to 80mm or ca. 3 inches long! He or she, crawles into the bigger type ears, such as the wing-ears of the Prince Charles from Great Braitain. If the Prince walks down the street, he closes all the shutters - personally - with his own big ears. Isnt that funny?

The earwig is not a friend to one who grows corn. Excellent capture
Jay-el-Jay
I have heard that they actually get the name earwig because they are often found in ears of corn and that it is a mistaken belief that they crawl into peoples ears.A fine picture just the same.

Excellent macro! I like these insects, in spite of all rumor--the scissors on the tail are harmless, though they might surprise one so that the insect will be released. (What is not so pleasant is that they sometimes come out from peach-stones directly ito your mouth.)
