Description

This photo was shot a few brief seconds prior to the release shown in my previous gallery image. My friend holding the bird is actually watching the wings which are moving rapidly, not quite still as in the photo. She caught a wing in the face at least once. The Osprey is both looking at her and talking to her. (As mentioned in the previous image, normally the birds are not released from hand but simply allowed to leave the carrier.) When the raptors are ready to be freed, the birds make it clear in their actions. Then, the plan is to release in the right area as soon as possible. An eager healthy bird can break feathers in any size flight enclosure and that is not wanted. Get the bird out and free it...that is what was done with the eager Osprey. I posted this one simply to show the expression on the Osprey and to show more of the beautiful raptor. I will likely be a while before I post more raptor shots. But who knows when what might happen and I "have" to be there. I have to actually get back to trying creative photography and some bw which also stirs my blood.

The ruffle of the feathers is much like the hair on a dog's back...it signals nervous energy. The impatience of this bird is very evident in your capture. The "fingers" on the wings are eager for air. Stellar shot.
