Description

I took this image in Soweto in Vilakazi Street, right opposite the house where Nelson Mandela grew up. It is a very popular tourist spot and there are a couple of informal traders who sell their art to the busloads of tourists visiting Mr Mandela's house. These traditional clay dishes are painstakingly hand painted by the traders/artists. The colors are truly magnificent and these folks are so talented. They usually have a very wide array of goods (all hand made) which they sell at the tourist hotspots!! Great presentation of these magnificient clay dishes. Made by the artist/seller would inspire me to buy some, eliminate the middle men. Still plan to go to SA and/or Namibia. The countdown should accelerate now Carin!!!
