Description

Well this is another first for me but out of sequence. I had heard woodpeckers before but had never seen one. And this was another elusive bird, starting out with first sighting in a tree down the street, took about 3 months for him to get this close in my back yard...and I actually got enough photos of him to do a collage at some point, he stayed in that tree nearly 20 minutes just cleaning himself. And I got to see him walk straight up the tree which I had never seen a bird do:-) He has a mate that comes once in awhile but as a couple they stay fairly distant and fly at the slightest movement. I had research and a page with his song but I accidentally deleted the mail I sent myself...sheesh! So I am left with saying its a woodpecker! Thanks for looking and for previous comments!

Nice pic, my friend! I've only seen one in real life, but this is much clearer than what i saw, since he was just flying away for me. Great shot and can't wait to see more! :))

Excellent capture, I have northern flicker in my trees from time to time, most woodpickers walk up the trees, but the white and red bellied Nuthatchs, are usually found going down head first. Thanks for sharing!!!

Great first shot, I have yet to get a good one. I agree about it looking like a Northern Flicker.
