I'm a 50-something Scotsman living in Glasgow, and I've been into CG art since 2005, and I like to think I'm not that bad at producing stuff that people like. I just hope I'm not deluding myself (^_^) My tastes run from glamour and fantasy, anime and manga, through to retro SF images and fake magazine and book covers.
I used Poser when I first started, but now I use DAZ Studio (latest version) for setting up and posing figures, and Bryce for the final renders. My own props and sets are created in TS4, which is a bit clunky, but it lets me build some interesting stuff. PhotoShop and Gimp are where it all comes together. I use only DAZ people in my artwork, as I find the Poser people a bit lacking in the looks and versatility department. I used to draw a lot, but discovering 3D has allowed me to create the kind of images I could never achieve with 'normal' media.
Thanks for all the positive and helpful comments that I have received. It's nice to get feedback from fellow artists. Makes posting the images seem worthwhile. At one time I was producing a CGI comic for a British comic-magazine called "Spaceship Away" but the editor decided that he would reduce my page count - and I decided that no he wasn't and pulled out all together. Although it lasted a short time it allowed me to experience life as a professional comics artist.
Hopefully it won't be my only time ^_^

You can almost hear the good Professor yelling at the reporter with the camera, that they were in a restricted area. Since you have access to the Crudworthy diary, maybe you can find out what was in his mind when he wrote that horrible novel "Rockets Away!"? A beer powered rocket?

Wow..... This is so dang good, both as a portrait and as a damn fine example of kitbashing. Add in a newspaper dot pattern and it would be pretty indistinguishable from a real photo. Interesting thought, that AJC was Quatermass' Watson. Except that Q would probably never have had the patience with AJC that Holmes did with Watson.

Pensioner Action Man...this is so damn cool.Had to look twice to make sure it wasn't a real person.Outstanding.As for the beer powered rocket, where do you think HRH Charles got the idea to run his Aston Martin on wine??Bloody waste if you ask me.Super work Iain...more!!!!.

For anyone interested in what I used: Body and Glasses - Dragon Models Head - Dragon in Dreams Napoleonic soldier Suit and Shoes - DC Comics Unknown Soldier Shirt and Tie - Dragon in Dreams Luftwaffe officer Coat - Blue Box US Officer Scarf - Sideshow Invisible Man So, as you can see, to create 'real' character models you still need to source stuff :)

When I saw the thumbnail I was stunned how it was possible to get such peculiar graphic style and character while making pose a real person of today, except if having access to a budget and to a serious studio, or working with a theater. I thought rather that it was easier, in some respects, to do that in 3D in spite of the fact that to get such realistic cloth folds is extremely difficult with current Poser, Daz and Quidam models. Finally if I have well understood your explanations, you did that with small-scale plastic models. The result anyway is simply fantastic and deserves admiration, the bad point being that the approach can only be used in a minority of cases.
