Close up of a very early manual calculator. I couldn't figure out how it worked, but the design and finish was amazing!

This is amazing. I've seen so many antique business items but never anything like this. You caught the beautiful brassy gleam and enough details to provide intrigue.

I never figured out the sliderule either but it is still interesting to practice with and am happy when I get it right. This looks much more complicated. What was it deisgned to do? - by that I mean what kind of calculations? Was it an expermint on mechnanical calculations or for some purpose? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepped_Reckoner Is this it? Hard to tell
