Reminds me of a fabulous sci fi story I read years ago .. of course I don't remember the title or the author, but the cover had similar things on it, sort of floaty almost balloon thingies. The humans that landed on this planet started to destroy them, and then someone found out they were sentient beings who could communicate through the mind .. that's all I remember. Sigh, now I have to start combing the second hand book stores to see if I can find that paper back again!
