Description

This morning - when I look at my caterpillars of the eyed hawk-moth to feed them - I found 13 of them lying in the corne of the box and trying to run out the door as I open it. I went to the local supermarket and have bought some potting compost. I put the potting compost into an old big bucket and let the misscoloured little creepers run out in it. Some seconds later, the first one was starting burying herself and as quick as I could I take the cam to share this moment with you all. Now I must wait - the moth will come out next spring - on may ore june 2009 ... Hope you like and enjoy - thanks for all youor kind words to further images.

They certainly know what to do and where to go. You have a wonderful bug study here and so very interesting. Your shot is marvelous with good color and clearity.

Great shot and interesting pastime. I have just had some Io moths emerge. I found eggs last May and brought them inside. They hatched and I kept them fed for over a month before they started looking for a place to pupate. Some used the leaf litter I had on the bottom and some used the leaves of the food plant as part of their flimsy cocoons. I will post the entire life cycle next week. Congrats on the progress and try to endure the wait. I almost had decided mine were going to overwinter, lol. Thanks for sharing. Lee
