Description

This is Apollo the American Kestrel, another bird from the Oregon Zoo's Wild Life Wild show. This little guy would not sit still; I think I threw away more pictures of him than of any other bird. Here's his profile: Apollo was found on the ground at the Beaver Portland General Electric power plant on June 20, 2005. He was just learning to fly, but unable to defend himself. He was taken to a local vet in Rainier, Oregon. Unfortunately, Apollo became habituated to human contact and was unable to be released back into the wild. He is now a wonderful ambassador for the Wild Life Live program. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

Ah he is so cute, excellent shot! I love the Oregon zoo, it's one of the few places that treats their animals kindly (at least last time I visited, I hope it hasn't changed)..

Great shot of this beautiful bird. I did not realize Kestrels had such lovely colors. The background colors and pose all add to the overall quality. Thanks for sharing. Lee

Even though you had to throw a lot away, the end result was worth it. I hope someone gave this little guy a snack after this.

Great pose and excellent clarity, and unlike most of the other birds of prey, looks delicate and even cute.

Thanks for the information! It's a pity that the bird is not really sharp like the glove is. But very nice pose and great colors!

Well he is cute, cute, cute. He reminds me of a kid that wants his picture taken but just can't sit still. At first glance I thought he was a baby but I guess not. I didn't know the adults looked like this. A great photo. I'm really enjoying this series and it makes me want to see this show at the zoo. It has been years since I've seen it.
