Description

When out for a drive with my mum yesterday, we came across a lovely herd of Jersey Cows eating their way through brambles and blackberries. The Jersey Cow is a pure bred cow, it was originally from Normandy and first registered as a separate breed in the year 1700. Imported semen has been banded since 1789 but last week it was agreed by the States of Jersey Government to finally import semen to ensure the breed continues. It will only be allowed from pure breed Jersey bulls worldwide. Many think this is the wrong decision. It is a milker so most bulls born are killed at birth sadly. Jersey milk is noted for its high quality rather than the quantity, it is particularly rich in protein, minerals and trace elements. Jersey milk is also rich in colour which is naturally produced from carotene, an extract from grasses (the cows natural food). Jersey Cows have huge eyes and are probably the most beautiful cow in the world, though I am not biased by any means lol Thank you for your views and comments Susan

Great shot. I learned to milk a cow as a boy, this was the breed. One hard lesson learned on day one....she did not know my hands and I had to tie her leg to the stall after she kicked over my pail. Thanks for the memory. -GB-

She is a lovely lady; but how on earth can they manage the sharp thorns on the blackberry brambles? Ouch!

I also love Jerseys but I also love the ruggedness of the Texas Longhorn. They both have a special beauty. Wonderful shot.
