Description

One of the best things about the Zinnias is that they attract butterflies and hummingbirds... I have not seen these butterflies before, Now they're out there everyday. Not many, one or two; I don't know what kind they are, and I don't have time to research. I've seen a couple other types too, but they don't sit still for long... Just as I have them in focus, they are gone. I'll keep trying :) My Previous upload, "Sherbert", or is it sherbet? On-line dictionary has both... I need to dig out the hard copy :) LOL Anyway, thanks for your comments and visits. Oh, and I am gonna be busy for the next couple of weeks, so if ya don't see me in your galleries, I may just sneak a peak and run, or I can't get on... (I'm getting ready for a vacation soon! Vanessa cardui (Painted Lady) if I am not mistaken and the most widespread butterfly on earth. The white tips on the antennae make it a striking display. Just some trivia: The butterfly is called "Sondagsrokkie" in Afrikaans, meaning Sunday dress.

Terrific POV, clarity, beautiful colors and composition in this shot, Melinda! A myriad of lovely textures cover the wings of this lovely butterfly, sipping up nectar from the zinnias through its proboscis. My Webster's New World Dictionary spells it "sherbet," as do the containers in all the ice cream sections of supermarkets I go to.

we have a very similar breed here but have not seen one this year.any bug chasing requires patience.luckily if you stay still they may come back to the same flower. pristine macro quality
