Description
A supernova is a together phenomena directly resulting from an explosion of a star, which is accompanied bt a short but fantastically large increase in its luminosity. Seen since the Earth, a supernova thus seems often a new star (from where its name: nova = new), then it actually corresponds to the dead of a star. The supernovas are rare events with the human scale: one estimates their rate at approximately one to three per century in our Milky Way. They play a crucial role in the however history of the universe, because it is during its explosion in supernova that this star releases the chemical elements which it synthesized during its existence and of which some are synthesized at the time of the explosion itself, to be diffused in the interstellar environment. Moreover, the shock wave of the supernova supports the formation of new stars while initiating or by accelerating the contraction of areas of the interstellar environment.
