Description

I remarked to the maintenance man at the difference in the coats on the squirrels and how most wouldn't notice a difference. He said the squirrels here usually don't come close enough to people for them to notice, that the animals here seem to trust me enough to come near. I can tell each squirrel apart easily and when I am outside I talk to them and call them by name, they seem to know their names. Dimples has been spending alot of time playing with this guy, Muggs, so named for his dirty face and his sort of bully attitude. He reminds me of a bulldog:-) Yesterday I had put out suet for the birds and Muggs was determined to get it. He would come to where I had it hanging, I was a foot away and he still would come and try...I told him No! and clapped my hands to startle him and he would run a few feet away but then would come sneaking back...And he chased Dimples and the other squirrels away, scolded them that it was his. Finally he got tired of me shaking my finger, clapping and saying no, so he just laid across the fence post waiting for me to leave.. Eventually I had to come back in the house so I imagine he is boasting that he won! Thanks for looking and for previous comments!

Wonderful story, Lynn! I talk to everything and anything too, it's a pity we don't live a bit closer, we could both see out our days together in the same institution. Great pic, BTW!

Great shot, Lynn. Interesting observation about the individual coats. Species-wise, in England we have Grey Squirrels and Red squirrels. The Grey Squirrels are not native and were introduced some time ago. They have been more successful than the Red kind and the Red Squirrels only exist in Northern Parts now.
