... this beautiful butterfly is a "painted lady Vanessa cardui" ... I am glad over and over again that so many people like all over the world my insects and flower photos so well! Wishes all one nice Sunday!

Great macro! European traveller butterflies. It is believed that V. cardui and V. atalanta (1) travel from the Mediterraneum (where they can survive the winter) to Central Europe each spring; (2) form one or maybe two generations; (3) die here. There is no evidence for travelling back. If really so, this is an interesting waste of nature.
