Description
some have inquired about how my mantis shots were done:
mantis was put into a white wine glass...
put on shot table...purple/blue background
used Nikon D70S wiith Sigma 105mm F2.8 1:1 macro lens
1-320ws studio flash unit in 3 foot softbox...F16 @ 1/250 secs
(ALL my workable shots (shots I like) are done using this same process)
...shot Raw
...used CS3 to edit Raw and change to Jpeg
...did basic Jpeg editing in CS3
...ran Jpeg through "PureImage" as with ALL MY WORKABLE SHOTS
(NO workable shot of mine is shown/done without using this great program)
...used "Picture Publisher 10" to
create background from color captured from original
used it's "Light Studio" to put lighting onto background
...used CS3 to merge mantis onto background
...used "Picture Publisher" to complete the final picture
resized
it's "Light Studio" to focus/put lighting onto mantis
put black frame and white border
split picture channels into HSL seperates
final sharping done on L image
combine HSL files into single image
Image is now complete (I hope this helps)

This is SO good! Amazing detail, not many people think of insects as having character but he does and you've captured it.

GORGEOUS SHOT! So full of life and detailed. I love how I can see every little feeler on his little arms. And he seems to have such a cute personality! Excellent capture!

I can't get over it. Your mantis is just so different! I was taking mantis shots this week and when I saw what you had been doing with them, I tried like heck to figure out how you postworked it like that. The eyes are really amazing as well as the obvious golden glow...I got nothing! You are just amazing.
