Description
"rainbows in the sky" or clouds that have brilliant colors.
It's due to those high, wispy clouds . Those clouds are made of tiny ice crystals, and if the cloud is at the right angle to the sun, the crystals will refract the sunlight (much like a prism) into the colors of the rainbow.
So it's very similar to a regular rainbow-when-it's-raining, only a little more rare.

the two specks are a bird and a Southwest airline jet.I have seen such clouds before but they were near the horizon and only with a 300 lens

Glad you explained the specks Richard, first I wiped my screen then I scrolled the picture, the thought was then is it a couple of birds or planes. There isn't that much in them at all, they are miniscule compared to the sky and the coloured clouds though. Another most excellent Texas Sky shot, a new one to me as I have never come across this before, so thanks for sharing. Spectacular work. Bravo!!!!!
