Description

I was debating whether or not to come back after some people threw a tantrum over my use of the word "fucking" and the mods decided to censor it, even though it was in the notes of my own image, in reference to my own work, not as an insult to someone else, and after I'd used that word 1000 times before (as had a huge amount of other people on this site) without incident. Also, I've checked the TOS and it doesn't say anywhere that you can't swear. Not as bad as promiselamb's "The Fart" getting taken down for "violence" (that was a seriously bad episode; I find it very amusing that effortless and badly-rendered CGI tits are acceptable, but somehow a guy sitting on a sofa with an uncomfortable look on his face is not), but still obnoxious. At least I'm not the target of bitchy in-site politics like she was. Anyway, this was taken earlier today down by the pond. It was as if the planets had aligned or something: the sunlight moved onto this cute little curly vine, and then a fly lit right on the end. I've always wanted to get a picture like this (Mayda Mason's gallery is full of great fly macros, some even of this specific species of fly) and now I have. Dreams do come true if they are small and insignificant. Postwork: Just the usual contrast and color jacking-up, smoothing the grain out of the blurry background and cropping. Do I really need to keep saying all that? I mean, if someone stumbles upon this one shot without seeing the rest of my gallery the phrase "just the usual" by itself would mean nothing, but if you're familiar with my stuff does it get annoying? EDIT: Took out a use of the word "bitch" I'm not comfortable with (I know it's sexist in general, but sometimes I'm okay with it and sometimes I'm not). I'm not sure if I'm totally okay with "bitchy" as a word, either, but it's not quite as bad the use I took out. -- Also, this is pretty late, but I think it's kinda egotistical to call English the richest language in the world, durleybeachbum.

It's a stunning shot! I love the colors in the wings. Personally, I don't care what anyone does to their photos, it's the end effect that matters to me, and I don't see any artistic value in the claim that it's just out of the camera. I think good postworking is an art in itself, and not something to be ashamed of. I'm no expert photographer myself, and when I take a shot it very rarely matches up to my interior vision of what I'm trying to capture. I think very often there is no match in nature to what we envision as we pick up our cameras and get ready to shoot, and that the scene is usually only the basic framework for what we produce at the end. Does that make any sense?

All the colors are so perfect, and so nice and sharp...yes, the planets were in alignment, but you also had the good sense to be there to capture it. Your patience, skill and good fortune came together in one spectacular shot. Nice job. BTW, found a tiny copper-colored frog in my yard this afternoon and thought of you. wb

Excellent! As we have come to expect from you! BTW I wasn't keen on the f word either, as English is the richest language in the world, but life's too short to make a fuss about trivia. It's your photos that count.
