Big day in town yesterday... and I missed it. USS Sterett, DDG 104, was commissioned accompanied by the sloop-of-war USS Constellation... Capt Sterett's first command. The new DDG is at the south Locust Point Passenger Terminal preparing for her first operational cruise. I managed to get around all the decrepit piers in the Port Covington area (we've been there before) to snap a few shots. Nothing to be seen from the actual landward side except the top of the mast. Taking my photos home I noticed something did not 'look quite right.' The stars and stripes at the fantail and at the masthead are the old 15 star, 15 stripe configuration that flew over Fort McHenry (just out of sight in the photo). Well we have quite a tableau here: dead piers/wharves, a family fishing off the sea wall, merchant shipping, cranes, spanking-new warship, grain elevators, and even a bird or so. I tell you guys, if CSX had managed to get a freight in there somehow, I think it would have been a nearly complete image. Enjoy; thanks for viewing. God bless you, Sterett and all who sail in you.
