amsterdam - here i lived around 1950 - when i went back i found that nothing much had changed - it is still drab and dark and dull as was the weather when i took the picture.

I think Koosie should be happy not to live here any longer :-) I looks so gloomy and empty, but it is a great shot with much mood.

When I visited Amsterdam I thought it was wonderful, I suppose you see very little of the truth as a visitor.

I never was happy at what I saw when returning to the homes of my youth. I've decided to look forward as much as possible. Still, it is nice to have the photographs in nostagic moments.

envious of the nation's working hard at preserving its roots. the gloomy look may at times be explained by a nasty weather only.

I tried to figure out what this picture did to me: It's really complex. You captured the geometry of the shot—the layout of glass & wood & brick, of window & wall, and the constant rhythms of glass reflections repeating themselves across the frame. But you caught a quiet gloom, a shadow that captures your theme perfectly. The theme of not living there anymore, of memory, and of the "dark and dull" feeling you have about the block. A complex beautiful design and shadowy memory all at once. I think this is a splendid shot, Koosie. Very complex and inward.

we have to put up with extremes in temperatures but have plentiful days to take pictures.if I went back to where I lived in the 50's it would be different since my mother's house was destroyed when she went to a nursing facility. it was full of termites. excellent capture of mood. they say one can not go home anymore, but at least you can visit
