Description

A long ways from home Desert heat Wearing down your soul Bombs blasting Bullets flying Innocent women and children dieing Killed a camel Kind of funny A year’s wages For some poor family Blood soaked boots From innocent souls A little girl with no legs Dead on the side of the road Its all for peace This thing called war We are hear to help you And we will kill everyone of you If we have to We come in peace This thing called war Vaggabondd

"War is not healthy for children and other living things"; this was a poster from the 60's~~it's tragic that we even have to think about it still........

I have been on three combat deployments as an American Soldier, Sir, and it is nothing like what you surmise in your poem. Yes, there is much that has gone wrong in this war, but it is far more immoral and unethical to see that virtually none of the legitimate accomplishments we have made have been covered by the US media at large. Omission by design, whichever angle it favors, cannot claim to be journalism. It becomes denigrated to the level of propaganda. No one I killed was innocent, and I saw the enemy intentionally target bombs at women and children. Camels are not common, either. It shows your naïveté on the subject. Yet I must quote a far more eloquent man than myself: War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. - John Stuart Mill Everyone here is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. Hopefully they will have the decency to remember that someone who wore a uniform and put others before themselves died to make it possible.

Well I guess I have given the impression that I am against war. And for the most part I really am. But I do believe there are things that are worth dieing for. I think the invasion into Afghanistan was for a noble cause. It was for the war on terror and as much as I hate war I understand that sometimes it just needs to be. But my poem is really about the war in Iraq. Which I believe and I pretty much believe the whole world now believes was all based on a lie. Every single reason this administration gave for invading Iraq was all wrong and I believe it was all a deliberate lie. I don’t think it was a lie to go get the oil, no I think it was to disrupt the oil supply. Bush is a oil man with rich oil friends. Under this administration the price of gas went from 1.42 when they took over to over 4.00 a gallon now. I believe that the oil company’s should have a banner hanging over there corporate offices that says mission accomplished. I do believe that it is not by chance but by design that the first amendment to the constitution is freedom of speech. And everyone certainly has the right to say and believe anything that they want and this is what I believe. Thanks Randy

Another poem that made me cry. War is horror! No one wins and so many lose. I think the hearts that condone war, have grown beyond cold and are buried inside the shells of those in government who crave to ultimately rule and rule absolutely. There used to be a term that was used for people like that..."Warmongers". We were shocked and outraged beyond belief when the twin towers and the pentagon were hit. If we have a conscience, we must ask ourselves how those people, the parents, grandparents, and those poor children must feel, seeing their homes destroyed and their family members killed and mutilated. What makes us any better than they? They love their country, we love ours. They try to protect their homeland, we try to protect ours too. Don't get me wrong, I love my country, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for our service men and women who go out and daily lay their lives on the line for the concept of freedom and for the things that we all hold dear to us. But my government... I don't trust. Never have, and never will. It is that simple, and that complex. (I'll get off my soapbox now)... Lea
