Description
Hi to all,
I'm returning from the sea ... a little burned by the hot Sicilian sun!
In the photo, you can admire a view of the sea of Santa Tecla with background of Timpa.
The Timpa is a promontory which is located at the foot of Acireale, in the province of Catania. It's a long ridge lava for almost seven kilometers drops down to the sea, covered with ivy, euphorbia and carob-trees.
Established by a thousand years old overlapping layers of lava and covered by the now rare maquis, Timpa is a natural and geological heritage exception, largely through user-friendly paths and trails, to a lesser part man-made environment.
In 1999, Timpa has become Nature Reserve thanks to the presence of a valuable strip of vegetation in maquis, the landscape, the peculiarities volcanological and the presence of a pristine marine environment.
For its peculiarities, the headland was used over the centuries as a military stronghold, especially for defence purposes from pirate raids.
I wish you a happy Ferragosto!
Ferragosto is a feast born in ancient Rome to celebrate the end of the main farm work. In Italy, currently the Ferragosto is considered the "New Year's Summer" and the night between 14 and 15 is feast on the beaches by large bonfires. But people also go to make trips outside traditional gateway to mountainous or hilly location, always looking for cool summer heat!

As I was wondering back in your gallery, I was brought up short by another image of Santa Tecla! It's great to see more of it. Beautiful view and capture! Very interesting about the red brick. I wonder what the villa looked like when it was intact. Great shot!
