Description

looks best in full size, please! My druid made level 70 in World of Warcraft*! And I finally figured out more things about shaders and lighting in Daz Studio! So I made art! Yay! *yes, I'm an actual girl gamer that plays a boy, it does happen sometimes :) Ok, what did I do here. I wasn't trying for photorealism (because I have a camera) and I wasn't trying to make a painting (because I actually can paint and draw just fine!) I really wanted to capture the feel of a good CG anime movie, you know, the kind that just look yummy and not uncanny or creepy. Something that looked really cinematic. And I noticed, in the stuff I like, that they used a lot of depth of field, and a lot of ambient occlusion, and the skins usually had a nice glowy-waxy look but the real bumpy details were left for the clothing and props. So that's the style I've been aiming for and I think I have it. I'll just have to see if ayone else likes it as much as I do. :) I used the UberEnvironment, with a distant light with a depth map shadow, and no AO for the first pass. It rendered pretty fast. Then I used pwSurface to make an Ambient Occlusion pass so I could control it in post. I rendered it at half size which took about two hours, and then upsampled it in photoshop whcih worked just fine. I wish I knew how to make just a shadow pass so I could use raytrace shadows. I guess I'll figure that out in the next image, unless someone can help me here.:) Things I messed with: the model is V4 with lots of morphing, and the hair is the Mitsu Hair with some D-formers and post-painting. I had to make a Sprite Darter texture for the Faerie Dragon because that's my druid's favorite pet. I also used the human surface shader for pretty mcuh everything, just played with different settings here and there until I got what I wanted. Hmm. I had to use the liquify filter in photoshop to get my guy's arm the right shape, and to smooth out the armor (which was made for M3 and converted in Wardrobe Wizard. Which kept making Studio crash for some reason. Not sure why.) I did some of the depth of field in Studio, and some more later in Photoshop (fortunately I had used Masker to get seperate masks of everything). I think next time I also need to figure out how to use Mood Master to get a Z Depth mask, that would help. Anyways, I LOVE DAZ STUDIO. Thanks Poser and Carrara, you were fun, but I'm never going back. :)

You use your tools well. I think this is one of my all time favorite images I've seen. I love the unspoken communication he's having with the Fairy Dragon as it's tagging along. The detail in the hair is just wonderful (that's coming from a hairdresser, almost 30 years in the biz). The highlights on the hair are very nice. I like the strands and how they are playing in the air as he is moving. The textures on the armor are just right and the skin is really quite perfect. I'd love to see the movie! LOL 10 stars from the Wolff!!

Excellent WoW character! Too bad I haven't logged on in ages - if my 10yo didn't play on my account I'd have no reason to keep it LOL. Really fine job here!

Oooo, he looks really great, I was actually a little shocked to read that it's V4 with Mitsu hair, haha; good work with the morphs and deformers. Wish I could sit here and dawdle on everything I like in here, but it's all too good-looking to look at any one thing through pinhole vision. Full. View. Must.
