Description

I said a while back I would upload something from my working experiences whilst working for the local Council, so here we go. This was inspired by Marilyin's latest upload about her early embarassing moments. I was employed as a Township Inspector for the Township of Heywood, in the Rochdale Metropolitan Borough. One of my roles was to inspect the streets for cleanliness and access and one of my operatives had told me he was experiencing difficulties cleaning a certain stret in the borough because of building materials on the footway. I visited the street and found out that a one ton sack of sand was on the footpath making it so that you had to walk into the road to get past the obstruction. I went and knocked on the door where some building work had been done to enquire about this large sack of sand. A bit of information now before I went and knocked on the door I inspected the sack. It was a builders yard sack the sort that is lifted on and of with an Hiab(a small crane on the wagon. It was three quaters full and moss had started to grow inside the sack, showing it had been there for quite some time. The extension that had been built was being used and there was no other building materials present. No ladders whelbarrows bricks or cement. I went to the door and knocked on, I waited a couple of minutes and a lady came to the door. Ienquired if the sand on the pavement belonged to her and she answered yes it does 'Why?' I then informed the lady that she was blocking the highway and under section two of the highways act 19nought plonk sub section whatever that she had 24 hours to remove the offending item. I must point out at this point this lady was about eight and a half months pregnant. Well as soon as I had finished asking her to get it moved asap, she thrust her belly forward and said, I live on my own how do you expect me to shift all that sand in this condition, and quick as a flash I responded with "get the chap that put that bun in the oven to do it" OOOPS!. Too late it was out, now you have to know this lady had been winding me up for about fifteen minutes with a load of obvious lies and I just said the first thing that popped into my head. Boy did I wish I could take it back though. I left as soon as she slammed the door in my face and headed back to the office. As soon as I signed back in there was a note waiting for me to go and see my line manager. I went along and got a dressing down and told to bite my tongue and walk away from any confrontations. Then all the office had a good laugh. He had already told everybody about this lady and qoted her to all of them. Did I learn my lesson? No way I went out and did something quite similar the very next week. It was very embarassing at the time though. An S.O.'s(senior officer) job is never dull working for the Environment Department of any Council. Thanks for stoppping by for a read and for any comments you care to make. I recieved an email from my sister this morning and I leave you with an extract from that mail. I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how grey the day may appear. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting. I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye. Now have a nice day ya hear!

LOL, nice answer Jeff, personally, i would have left you a congratulatory note, for exceelent thinking on your feet, is the red face in the pic a natural reaction?...Oh well that said, at least you were not a health and safety executive, I once had a job running cable for IT installations, we had run it in the basement of this bank in the city of London, we tagged it to the wall 8 feet up with tower clips, The HSE saw it, and said it had to be put inside conduit, because it was a tripping hazard?..8 Feet up? LOL...where is the 16 foot people I ask myself :)...Great job here mate!

Oh yes the sand got moved, I got my men to move it for her and charged her twenty quid (£20.00) about forty dollars. Two men and a vehicle at £60.00 per hour. She refused to have it moved herself and she got off light really, I could have had her prosecuted but then that might have been even more embarassing for me.

Haha lol,I'd like to say to everyone this is just a sample of the stories I get from you Jeff when we are travelling on one of our photo days out. Fascinating stories all the way there AND all the way back, I'm mesmerised the whole journey lol. I can understand now How difficult it is NOT to verbally react in such a manner, we've probably all done it from one time or another. I had a laugh also when I saw the ebot on my mail list it came up with your title without the brackets around ..."for Beachzz"

I agree with Jock. here we call it "egg on your face" and I done it many times. many people say things to make you loose your cool.someone told me years ago , if someone is calling you names or trying to make you mad, be silent and it will infuriate them more than any words you could say.I tried it and it works
